1. At what age can my daughter cheer for the Gridiron
League?
Gridiron League Cheer is for girls ages 5-12 (age as of
September 1, 2021).
2. How are the Gridiron cheerleading squads formed?
The Gridiron League is a zoned league. The cheerleading
squads will be made of girls that live in the same high school zone per Fort
Bend ISD and LCISD zoning maps -- just as the Gridiron Football teams are
formed.
Ideally, teams are formed by age groups: Freshman (Ages
5-6), Junior Varsity (Ages 7-9), and Varsity (Ages 10-12)
An exception will be made strictly for siblings in
order to allow for sisters to cheer for their brother's team. For
example, a 6-year-old cheerleader may "cheer up" for the junior
varsity football team if her brother is on that team.
Note: The League
reserves the right to make adjustments in squads to balance numbers where
necessary.
3. How much is the cheerleading registration fee, and what
does Gridiron provide?
The registration fee is $300 per cheerleader. The Gridiron League will provide a 3-day (10 hour) APEX cheerleading training camp. Each
cheerleader will receive a uniform, which includes a shell, skirt,
bloomers/briefs, hair bow, pompoms, and Camp T-shirt. In addition, first
year cheerleader will receive a "cheer bucket" to be decorated.
Cheerleaders will provide their own shoes (all white) and white no-show socks.
4. Will there be a cheer camp, and is this included in the
price of the registration?
Gridiron will provide a cheer camp for all cheerleaders at Apex
Cheer in Stafford. This camp is included in the cost of your
registration. Each girl will attend for three days (Tuesday through Thursday)
for 3.25 hours each day. At camp, the girls will learn cheers, half-time
dance and cheerleading basics. Dates for the 2021 camp are July 20 to
July 22. We ask that you plan your vacations around this week.

5. How many nights a week will there be a practice and/or
a game?
Each Cheer Coach will determine the day and time of practices
for the team.
Typically, practices are on Monday or Tuesday nights from 6 pm to
7:30 pm. The practices are held adjacent
to where the boy’s practices are held to keep families from going to multiple
places to drop-off and pick-up.
Most likely, the first 2 weeks of practices will begin the first
week in Aug with 2 practices that week. Once the season starts, squads will
drop to one practice a week and will have one game on Saturday. All of the
specifics will be communicated by the team Cheer Coach to registered Cheerleaders
in advance.
6. Where do the cheer squads practice?
Cheer squads will practice at or near the same practice location
as the football teams in your zone. The Cheer Coach will determine the
exact time and location for cheer practices and advise parents as soon as
possible. Every attempt is made to hold practices the same nights as the
football players and in a location at or near where the football teams
practice.
7. Will the squads participate in cheerleading
competitions?
The squads will only cheer recreationally for Gridiron Football
games, parade and Gridiron related activities.
8. I am interested in volunteering to help with
cheerleading. What should I do?
Contact the Cheer Director, Beth Ann Karraker ([email protected]) as soon
as possible with your name and what team you are interested in coaching.
Cheerleading coaches will be subject to a background check.
9. What is the Refund Policy?
Refund requests must be given in writing to the Cheer Director.
Full
refund will be given, less a $10 processing fee, up until uniforms have been
ordered. After uniforms have been ordered, the cost of the uniform will
be deducted from the refund.
